All you can plot
About Chart Buffet
All you can plot: a free chart maker that suggests the right chart for your data — and never sees your data.
Why it exists
Most people who need a chart don’t need a charting course. They have a table, a deadline and a question: what is the right way to show this? Chart Buffet answers that question first, by reading your columns and recommending the chart that suits them, with the reason why. Then it gives you good-looking defaults and easy controls for the rest.
It is the sister site of Number Buffet, which serves number sequences, random draws and classroom charts in the same spirit: free, fast, and nothing to sign up for.
Your data never leaves your browser
Chart Buffet is a set of static files. There is no server-side code, no database and no upload endpoint anywhere on the site, so there is nowhere your data could be sent. Your table is read, charted and exported by JavaScript running on your own device.
You can check this: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and paste a table. Or load the page, switch off your connection, and keep working — everything still runs. Files you open are read in memory with the browser’s file APIs. Downloads are created in the browser. Even the fonts are served from chartbuffet.com itself rather than a font service.
The one thing kept between visits is the chart you are working on, saved in your browser’s local storage so a reload doesn’t lose it. It stays on your device, and “Clear data” removes it.
How the suggestions work
When you paste a table, Chart Buffet works out what each column holds: numbers (in any of the formats spreadsheets export, including currency, percentages and European decimal commas), dates, or labels. Then it looks at the shape of the whole table: is there a timeline? How many categories, and how long are their names? Do values go negative? Do the parts add up to 100%? Do several values share a label?
Each chart type has rules for the shapes it suits, built on research about how accurately people read different encodings (Cleveland & McGill 1984) and on long-standing practice in statistical graphics. Some charts are deliberately never suggested: pies with more than six slices, or two y axes on one chart.
Who makes it
Chart Buffet is made by Blue Skua LLC. Charts are drawn with Syncfusion’s Essential JS 2 chart components. The site is free and funded by advertising.
